Its official Pretty Little Liars will be the longest lasting original show to ever air on ABC Family. The season 5 premiere of PLL is set to air tonight at 8pm, and will pick up right where the season 4 finale ended. This is abcfamily’s first ever multi-season pickup . The soapy mystery has been renewed for a sixth season , to air in mid-2015, and for a seventh season , to air in mid-2016.  Pretty Little Liars, is ABC Family’s No. 1 series ever in total viewers (3.8 million) and all target demos: adults 18-34 (1.5 million/2.2 rating), women 18-34 (1.3 million/3.7 rating), adults 18-49 (2.0 million/1.6 rating), women 18-49 (1.7 million/2.7 rating), people 12-34 (2.6 million/2.8 rating) and females 12-34 (2.3 million/4.9 rating).

The recently picked up comedy series; Young & Hungry, Mystery Girls and the new network drama Chasing Life have all found spots on ABC Family’s summer line-up. To accompany these new series fan favorites; Pretty Little Liars, Switched at Birth and The Fosters will all return in June with new episodes. Pretty Little Liars returns for its fifth season in which the PLLs must dodge their dreaded nemesis, “A,” while navigating a world with Alison back in it. The series will hit milestone 100th episodes during its fifth season. Switched At Birth returns as the characters deal with the consequences of decisions made in the mid-season finale. This spinoff just didn't have any juice. Sorry Ravenswood fans but the show has officially been cancelled . Unfortunately, the freshman supernatural drama aired just 10 episodes, and was launched behind the annual "Liars" Halloween special in October. The show never seemed to gain a ratings foothold, and continued to fall in the ratings when it was not placed behind Pretty Little Liars. Ravenswood earned an average of just under 1.3 million viewers each week.

2014 is shaping up to be a record setting year for ABC Family, they have decided to make a heavy push toward comedies, green lighting more than four new comedies to pilot with some big name stars attached. ABC Family is one of those rare television stations where I am going to try everything that premieres on that channel at least once. I may not love everything but, I must say I am addicted to more than a handful of their hit television programs. Summer programming is where Abc Family shines and I must say that this year is no different; there are new hits and returning favorites for everyone to enjoy. Although there is still no word on what lies ahead for previous summer hits such as Bunheads, and the lying game, that is no reason not to tune in this summer and get wrapped up in; the mystery, friendships, and family that remains a key component of ABC Family original series.
