There Are Changes Underway at TNT, 2013 TNT Upfronts

TNT is home to some of the best, most talked about, most watched television dramas on cable. At their 2013 Upfronts TNT announced their ambitious plan to move into year round original programming. With the plethora of scripted and unscripted shows in development, combined with new shows already given a series order, it will not take long until TNT will be able to accomplish this exciting goal. TNT pushed full steam ahead this summer launching four brand new series along with five returning favorites. There are old fan favorites, and new shows to capture your attention so…..Sit back, relax, and let TNT entertain you.

SCRIPTED SERIES IN DEVELOPMENT

Portal House
This project is the story of a group of young scientists who, while investigating what they believe to be a haunted house, stumble upon a portal into the time-space continuum. Things then take a turn for the worse when one of their own vanishes into the portal.

Peter Gunn
This re-imagining of the classic post-modern Blake Edwards-Craig Stevens’ series centers on a gentleman private eye who is not above getting his bespoke suit and tie dirty, if that’s what it takes to bring down the bad guys, save his hometown and win back the love of the gal he left behind.

The Last Cop
Life can seem to pass in the blink of an eye, but for LAPD cop Mick Branigan it actually did in this project based on the hit German series. After almost 20 years in a coma, Mick awakens to a changed world – his loving wife has moved on, his teenage daughter doesn’t know him, and his old police force bears no resemblance to the one he knew in the ’90s.

A Bend in the Road
This character drama based on Nicholas Sparks’ book is set in a resort town. Sheriff Miles Ryan is known for his keen ability to solve crimes and his deep understanding of the town’s citizens. But what Miles doesn’t realize is just how many secrets are buried beneath the very streets he walks – the most unsettling having to do with the unsolved murder of his wife.

Guilt by Association
Based on the debut novel by Marcia Clark, lead prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson trial, this project centers on Rachel Knight, a gutsy Deputy District Attorney in the Special Trials Unit of the D.A.’s office for L.A. County. She works closely with a tough-as-nails female LAPD detective named Bailey Keller and a stylish female prosecutor named Toni LaCollette, both of whom routinely crash at Rachel’s place.

Lew Archer
Based on the title character from Ross McDonald’s popular novels, this project from The Closer creator James Duff and Close to Home creator Jim Leonard follows the sleuth many consider to be “the original P.I.”

Crushed
This primetime soap focuses on two rich lovers: Caz, whose father, Jeremy owns Terra Winery, and Daphne, Jeremy’s young wife. When Jeremy announces that he has amended his will to leave them each 50% of the business, their rivalry gets the better of them. They make a unique bet to determine who has the best seductive powers.

UNSCRIPTED SERIES DEVELOPMENT

Burn
From executive producer Denis Leary, Burn is an action-packed docudrama told through the eyes of Detroit firefighters, who are charged with the task of saving a city that many have written off as dead. Burn will take viewers closer than ever to the fires and the lives of the men and women who fight them, exploring human struggles, hope and personal courage in the face of overwhelming odds.

Cop Swap
From legendary producer Dick Wolf comes a unique unscripted format. Each week, two law enforcement officials from diverse backgrounds and departments immerse themselves in each other’s lives and jobs in an effort to learn something that will make them better officers, partners and citizens of the law. When all is said and done, the cops reflect on their mutual journeys, and reveal new perspectives on what it means to protect and serve.

Monopoly
From the iconic toy and game company Hasbro comes the reality version of the popular game. Eight two-person teams will play a game of real-world Monopoly with a huge cash prize at stake. Just like the iconic game, the ultimate goal is to amass as much property and wealth as possible in this game that requires strategy, business acumen, people skills and chance.

The Big Deal
From the producers of The Biggest Loser and MasterChef comes the biggest treasure hunt America has ever seen. Teams of antique and collectible enthusiasts from across the country compete in an epic scavenger hunt for the chance to win thousands in cash.

A new unscripted procedural drama that follows two top-notch female investigators as they dig into murder cases that have lingered for years without answers and closure. In small towns across America, cases involving violent crimes can often go cold because of a lack of funding, resources and state-of-the-art forensic technology. With the right resources, though, many of these cold cases can be re-opened and solved, bringing dangerous criminals to justice and providing closure for the families of their victims.

LOST ANGELS (Premieres Late 2013/Early 2014)
This new series tells the true story of a decades-long conflict between the Los Angeles Police Department, under the determined leadership of Police Chief William Parker, and ruthless criminal elements led by Mickey Cohen, a one-time boxer who rose to the top of L.A.’s criminal world. The series is a fast-paced crime drama set in Los Angeles during the 1940s and ’50s. It’s a world of glamorous movie stars, powerful studio heads, returning war heroes, a powerful and corrupt police force and an even more dangerous criminal network determined to make L.A. its West Coast base.

MARSHALL LAW: TEXAS (Premieres Late 2013)
Marshal Law: Texas, which is slated to premiere in 2013, is set in Houston, Texas. Produced with the cooperation of The U.S. Marshal Service, the series centers on the elite Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force, which includes U.S. Marshals working with personnel from the Houston Police Department, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and other law-enforcement agencies. Marshal Law: Texas follows these dedicated officers as they track down extremely violent offenders, serve warrants and go on the hunt for some of America’s most wanted criminals.

INSIDE JOB
Each week on Inside Job, one of America’s hottest companies will invite four highly qualified job candidates to compete for a six-figure executive position. For one week, they’ll live together, work together and play together as part of the interview and hiring process.

SAVE OUR BUSINESS (Premieres Late 2013)
Peter Jones is a titan of entrepreneurship who has created a worldwide empire with more than a hundred businesses, both large and small. In TNT’s Save Our Business, Jones travels across America on a mission – investing his time and expertise and putting his reputation and even his own money on the line to save small businesses in trouble. Each week, Jones will assess the major problems facing a struggling company and design a plan to help save it from collapsing.

NASHVILLE CONFIDENTIAL (Premieres Winter 2014)
Nashville Confidential is set in and around the high-stakes country music business based in Nashville, Tenn. Centering on some of Nashville’s most compelling power couples, the show provides an alluring and unprecedented glimpse behind the scenes of one of America’s most unique, vibrant and competitive cities.

THE LAST SHIP (Premieres 2014)
TNT has ordered 10 episodes of The Last Ship, with plans to launch the series in 2014. The story opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. But now the crew and its captain must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors.

LEGENDS (Premieres 2014)
Legends is based on the award-winning book by master spy novelist Robert Littell, whose CIA novel The Company served as the basis for TNT’s acclaimed 2007 miniseries. In Legends, Bean stars as Martin Odum, an undercover agent working for the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations (D.C.O.) division. Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job. But he begins to question his own identity when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn’t the man he believes himself to be.

LIFE FLIGHT (Premieres Early 2014)
life Flight follows the dedicated teams from Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where the Life Flight service was born. The series is an all-access pass to the split-second decisions that air-ambulance teams have to make while trying to perform life-saving procedures both on the ground and hundreds of feet in the air. The teams are made up of real-life heroes, from the helicopter pilots who spring to action when accidents occur to the doctors, paramedics and nurses who form the last line of defense to fight off death as they treat critically injured patients.

BREEZY’S RECAP

I have been waiting for USA, TNT or ABCF to turn away from their primarily summer, winter original programming model, and instead emphasize all year original programming. In recent years cable has been outshining network television in quality and rating. I am excited to see how TNT is going to pull this off. I love the trailers for legends and the last ship, they look amazing and I will be on the edge of my seat the entire time. This summer TNT is doing a great mix of returning favorites and new shows. Has anyone checked out the rocks new show Hero? Is King and Maxwell and good? Did the premiere of Rizzoli and Isles live up to expectations? What new show on TNT are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments section.

  1. For me Major Crimes is TNT's best show!!
This show has consistently won Monday night's in total viewers since it's S2, June 10th premier.
If TNT would promote it just think of how much higher it's ratings would soar!!

I am disappointed that the show didn't even get a promotional picture in this blog!

  4. Rizzoli and Isles always lives up to my expectations and then some. This is indeed THE best show I've seen on tv since the days of Cagney and Lacey. we are into season 4 and I have loved every single episode, and that is saying something. You are onto a winner here, with a great cast and crew headlined by two awesome women Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. I sincerely hope you give the go ahead for another season or 2 at least. I love this show and can't get enough of it.

MY FIVE WIVES ON TLC

"One huge plural family" After the raid in Texas, many Americans became aware of polygamy as an alternative lifestyle being practiced secretly all over the U.S. TLC became the first channel to offer viewers an inside look into how polygamy was being practiced by "modern" looking men and women. The network decided to capitalized on the American public's innate fascination with alternative lifestyles and their curiosity with how these all American families; live, interact and find a way to raise and feed households that are often 5 or 6 times the size of the average family.    We got our first look into how normal and yet chaotic their lives were when TLC introduced its viewers to the Brown family; Kody, his four wives, and their seventeen children. They ice blocked, threw co-ed parties, and had a non negotiable stance on modesty -- they were normal. It only took one episode for TLC to know they had a hit on their hands. In four seasons, there has bee...
