Its time to SCREAM with MTV, they announced their new shows as the 2013 MTV Upfronts

MTV use to be known for its dedication to everything pop culture and a slew of reality shows including fan favorites: MADE, and True Story. The iconic cable channel seems to be struggling to find it identity when the market is over populated with pop culture websites, webisodes and television shows. Nevertheless MTV expanded into MTV2 and has undergone multiple attempts at scripted television which landed them the monster hit Teen Wolf. There will be at least 5 new original series on the iconic network before 2014. In a rare move MTV has already green lighted a pilot for a tv show based off the Scream Movie franchise, without a script or a concept for the show. Officials inside MTV have stated that Scream will hopefully air by summer 2014. I guess we shall see.

Scream (pilot)

MTV and Dimension Film’s one-hour pilot will reinvent the successful horror comedy franchise that spawned three sequels and unleashed “Ghostface” to a legion of unsuspecting fans. MTV and Dimension Films are in discussions with various writers for the potential series which would be slated for a summer 2014 debut on the network. Dimension Films is in discussions with the films’ original director and renowned filmmaker Wes Craven to direct the one-hour pilot. DiGa Vision will serve as a producer.

New Series on MTV

The Alectrix - Premiered Tuesday, June 4 at 11PM

The Alectrix is a six-episode series that follows Heather Naylor – the leader of the pop-group “The Alectrix” – as she and her group mates strive for their big break in the music industry and finally fulfill their dreams of superstardom. After realizing they have come to a standstill in their career and desperately need a change, Heather decides to bring in music mogul, Joe Simpson, to take over management of the group. Throughout the season, friendships are tested and rivalries emerge as the girls fight to prove their abilities to Joe and earn their spot in the group. “The Alectrix” come to realize they may have the talent, drive and dedication to make it to the top, but for these pop divas, that’s only half the battle. 

South of Heaven - Premieres Fall 2013

South of Heaven is a new half-hour docu-series following the lives of a group of fun loving girlfriends at the best little honky tonk bar in Texas who are working to make their dreams a reality. The eclectic group of girls includes a gifted student working to save money to go back to Harvard, an ambitious waitress who wants to move from behind the bar to the front of the business office and the girl who knows how to keep the clientele happy but comes at odds with other staff. They’re working their way towards adulthood one crazy shift at a time. Their lives are loaded with tons of comedy, drama and heart, where the bonds of their sisterhood are unbreakable. Whether they're partying on Lake Lewisville, planning their futures, or getting dirty on the ranch, they’re living it up and letting loose every day. Throughout every episode of “South of Heaven,” viewers will get the chance to watch the sisterhood and the ladies evolve, shift, and grow as they work and party their way through the drama and adventure of figuring out who they are and where they’re going. Giddy up!

Katie Yeager, Alex Sekella, Mackenzie Douthit and Briana DeJesus, who first shared their pregnancy stories in Season 4 of 16 and Pregnant, continue to their journeys into motherhood on Teen Mom 3

Generation Cryo 

explores the issues faced by a new generation of kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors and are redefining what it means to be a family. The series will document the journey of Breeanna, a 17-year-old only child, who recently logged onto the Donor Sibling Registry, a website dedicated to connecting sperm donor families, and learned that she has at least 15 half-siblings all fathered by a man none of them know. Now, Bree’s on a mission to meet all of her half-brothers and sisters and lead them on a nationwide search to find their biological father.

Nurse Nation (working title) 

is a new docu-series that follows nine twenty-something travel nurses all assigned to work at a new hospital in a brand new city for 13 weeks. Some of them have been doing this for years, while others are on their first tour. Cameras will be there every step of the way as they take on the unique challenges and intense pressures of working in the medical profession as they face life or death decisions every day. But it’s not ‘all work and no play.’ On days off, they take advantage of all that their host city has to offer, meet new people and potential new loves while often trying to keep previous relationships and friendships alive. It’s the ultimate ‘work-hard/play-hard’ lifestyle.

The Hook Up,  

hosted by Andrew Schulz of MTV2’s popular hit series “Guy Code,” is a dating show that will air as an afternoon strip on MTV. Individuals looking for a match will choose from four potential suitors based on their social media history. With the help of their closest friends, the contestants will try to separate the contenders from the pretenders to see if what you see is really what you get.

Nick Cannon Presents Wild N Out Premieres July 9th 

the updated version of Nick Cannon Presents Wild ‘n Out will of course feature the return of Nick Cannon, but the new series will focus more on Cannon searching high and low for the next big thing in comedy as he finds the newest upcoming comedic talent to join him on the show. Along with Cannon, the fresh version of Wild ‘n Out will also bring back some familiar celebrity faces from previous seasons of the original series.

A "catfish" is a person who creates fake profiles online and pretends to be someone they are not by using someone else's pictures and information. These "catfish" use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, usually with the intention of getting other people or a person to fall in love with them. The term "catfish" is derived from the 2010 documentary film, in which Schulman discovered the woman he'd been carrying on an online relationship who he thought was a 20-something girl was really a middle-aged mother of 4.

The Challenge: Rivals II Premieres Wednesday, July 10th @ 10PM

Money From Strangers a hidden camera show hosted by comedian Jeff Dye sees how far people will go for $1,000. Dye snares unwitting contestants off the street to perform interactive impromptu pranks on a variety of unsuspecting victims. If contestants can successfully complete the prank they win a $1,000 prize and maybe lose some dignity. Jeff, along with a rotating pair of comedians, uses a secret earpiece to communicate to contestants while watching all the action. which recently wrapped its first season as the highest rated original debut season in MTV2 history, will return for a second season as the young music superstar embarks on a series of new adventures in his personal and professional life.
