5 and Done for Our America with Lisa Ling

OWN has announced that soon it will be time to say goodbye to Our America with Lisa Ling. The upcoming 5th season of the documentary series will be its last. Our America was one of the first shows picked up by OWN back when it started, and it was the shining light of the network when critical accolades and praise by critics. At the time it was the only show not hosted by Winfrey that drew any type of audience the only one to make it this far. Acknowledging Our America‘s contributions to OWN, both of the network’s presidents spoke of the series’ exit. “Over the past three years, Our America has cast a bright light into dark places, raised awareness of some of our country’s most controversial issues and provided a voice to those who are often not heard,” said OWN President Sheri Salata. Added OWN President Erik Logan, “Lisa Ling’s top-notch journalistic work is the best in the industry, and we can’t wait to see her soar in her next chapter.” The 10-episode fifth and final season of Our America kicks off May 29. New topics include gun violence in Philadelphia, ADHD in American families, the largest foster care system in the country, criminal informants, the HIV epidemic in the African-American community and the emotional story of a woman held captive for months. Our America has shined a spotlight on places in America that most people either ignore or have never heard of. Hopefully as this series comes to an end OWN will put Our America on DVD so that sororities, community service groups, schools and individuals can use these episodes to help learn and raise awareness about the darker sides of the freest nation in the world. Are you sad to see our America go? Sound off in the comments
